LWV WHIDBEY

YOUTH VOTER PROJECT

On October 4, 2022, three of our members met with 75 juniors and seniors at South Whidbey High School to discuss the importance of voting and to help those eligible to register to vote. Since then, we’re now connected with civics teachers and classes at all three Whidbey Island public high schools -- Oak Harbor, Coupeville and South Whidbey.

Our presentations to Civics classes starts with a brief explanation of the role and history of the League of Women Voters, shows the students how to access voter registration resources (like the League’s VOTE411.org website), and discusses how to learn about candidates and ballot initiatives.

This project supports the League’s core mission of empowering voters and defending democracy.

If you are a current LWV Whidbey Member interested in joining the committee you may contact Kris Barnes - kris@krisbarnes.net or Robin Porter - rbnporter@gmail.com

Special Thank you to our past President Carla Grau-Egerton who spearheaded this project and Joann Roomes for her excellent suffragette costumed assistance and enthusiasm.
